IT´S A WRAP:WRAPPING RDF AND SRF
The growing demand for waste-based fuels like SRF or RDF creates the need for such materials to be produced, stored, transported and handled in an environmentally-friendly and safe manner. Wrapped bales provide a logistic solution, benefitting both the waste processing facilities and cement plants.
RDF AND SRF IN WASTE-TO-ENERGY FACILITIES AND CEMENT PLANTS
We have delivered our wrapping lines and bale openers for RDF and SRF materials to cement plants in Denmark, Turkey and Iraq. We have also been delivering bale wrappers to waste management plants producing RDF and SRF.
Cross Wrap bale opening technology includes unique features such as the fully-automated separation of wrapping film and bale ties from the bale when it is opened. Our BO3600 bale opener is also equipped with an automatic film and wire-coiling unit. In addition, the CW2200 wrapping lines are the only specialists of its kind that provide cross-wrapped cover for RDF and SRF bales, a unique protective cover for such materials.
WHY YOU SHOULD WRAP RDF AND SRF?
The wrapping of bales enables RDF and SRF to keep their value while travelling to the end customer. It also protects the wrap from external influences such as moisture. Wrapped bales neither litter nor lose material when being handled and transported. They are more economical to transport compared to 'loose' waste, because they do not require any special vehicles and can utilise economical backhauling freights.
FROM WASTE-TO ENERGY FACILITY TO CEMENT PLANT
As huge amounts of materials often need to be shipped across long distances – sometimes travelling from a waste processing facility in one country to a cement plant in another – high-quality wrapping is essential. A baling and wrapping line is a fast and economical way to produce fuel bales that are ready to be shipped, benefitting both the waste-processing plant and the cement producer.
For the processing plant, high-quality baling and wrapping ensure that the production process is controlled and safe, and enable the temporary storage of bales at the facility. It also helps to keep the surroundings clean and safe.
Upon arrival at the cement plant, the wrapped RDF and SRF bales can be stored, allowing flexibility in scheduling fuel requirements. The storing of wrapped bales is more environmentally sound compared to the storing and handling of loose material.
Opening of the bales takes place in the bale opener, which cuts the plastic film and ties, separates them from the fuel material and the feeds the fuel onward.
In some instances, cement plant operators have their own fuel production line, meaning that they can bale and wrap the materials themselves to be stored, and then process the wrapped bales to the opener when the fuel is required.
CASE STUDIES FOR CEMENT INDUSTRY
Denmark: Cross Wrap recently delivered a BO3600 bale opener to a cement producer in Denmark. The customer runs the machine for one shift which is usually 8-14 hours per day. The wrapped bales that arrive to the kiln are automatically opened by the bale opener which can reach a capacity of 80-100tph when required.
Turkey: Cross Wrap also installed two CW2200 bale wrapping lines and two BO 3600 bale openers to two separate cement plants in Turkey. The producers bale and wrap waste-to-energy materials to make their own fuel storage. The CW2200 bale wrappers can wrap bales up to 80tph. When the plant needs to open up the wrapped bales to feed the material into the kiln the BO 3600 bale opener has an operational capacity of 80-100tph.
Iraq: A cement plant in Iraq has also seen delivery of a Cross Wrap CW2200 bale wrapping line and BO3600 bale opener. This project is currently in its commissioning phase.
FACILITATING USE OF ALTERNATIVE FUEL
The wrapping and baling of SRF has proven to provide a safe and effective way of handling, transporting and storing waste materials, facilitating the increasing use of alternative fuels in cement kilns.
